Can I place a hold on a book?
Answer
Only NIC students, staff, and faculty can place a hold on a book, although community members over the age of 18 are welcome to check out books with a Community Borrower Card.
(See: "How do I get a library card?")
Course Reserve items cannot be placed on hold and are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.
To place a hold on an item in the general library collection, log into your account from the main library website by using your NIC credentials and search for the book you would like to check out. Click on the title of the book to open the record. Use the menu bar on the left-hand side of the screen to navigate to "Get it." Click on "Request -- Place a hold" to submit your request!
You will receive an email once your book is ready for pickup at the Circulation Desk. Books are held for 7 days. Please call the main library line at 208-769-3355 or email circulation@nic.edu to request a hold extension.
